With all the talk about Vancouver’s real estate market, it’s easy to forget that behind the scenes there are real people working hard. It takes some real skill and knowledge to help someone buy or sell a home properly and you won’t find anyone better than someone who lives locally and gives where they live. Congrats to all our WestVancouver and NorthVancouver real estate pros and may you have the best year ever in 2017.

Hotel Georgia’s New Prohibition Cocktail Lounge is Sexy Chic
A modern crystal chandelier greets you at the door as you descend the spiral staircase. At the bottom, a plush long bar, lined with tantalizing turquoise bar chairs, outlines the room. Small cluster cocktail tables with padded booths and small stools stand adjacent waiting for couples to come cuddle. And while you may be there for a casual drink, you’ll quickly wish it was for something more forbidden, like a secret rendezvous or romantic proposal.
Prohibition – the newest addition to Vancouver’s Rosewood Hotel Georgia – is everything its name implies. Dimly lit, sexy and provocative, the room recently received a modern renovation worth approximately $4 million. While new and chic, it also exudes all the style and grace of the 1920’s complete with vintage glassware, server’s outfits and bespoke cocktails made with care and expertise.
Those of us who’ve followed the remodelling and renovation of the hotel from it’s earlier days, and those of us who know it from its earlier glory days in Vancouver, will recognize that this room is yet another tribute to the hotel’s wonderful legacy and legend. For those looking for a true trip down memory lane, be sure and look at the wall in the bathroom hallway which is filled with famous faces from years gone by.
With hours of operation that extend to 2am on weekends, count on this room to become yet another sought after hot spot in the Vancouver lounge scene.
A VIP sneak peak event was held this Tuesday night complete with dancing girls, classic champagne and cocktails, caviar and a live performance by Grammy Award winner Chin Injeti. A second pre-party was held Wednesday night.
Prohibition opens to the public on Thursday Feb 12, 2015. Be sure to put it on your must-see list.

Penthouse Vancouver Book Launch – Liquor, Lust and The Law
The police have tried to shut it down. A fire almost burned it down. And harder economic times have certainly brought the pressure down. But like a prize fighter who refuses to stay down, The Penthouse nightclub has rolled with the punches and survived to tell the tale of what really happens after dark in Vancouver, over the last 65 years.
That tale is called “Liquor, Lust and The Law” (Arsenal Pulp Press), and it is quickly becoming one of Vancouver’s best selling, secret telling, publications. From its heyday as a glamorous celebrity “rat pack” hangout, where regular big names like Frank Sinatra, Frankie Laine and Louis Armstrong hung out, to its present day status complete with somewhat seedier subplots, The Penthouse has nonetheless stood as a symbol of a bygone era where families did business together in the community amidst an atmosphere of tradition and respect.
Last week, at a special invite only launch party, several of the who’s-who of Vancouver came out to celebrate with Penthouse owner Danny Filippone and his family at this historic occasion. The book’s author, Aaron Chapman, was also on hand to greet guests and sign copies for all the familiar faces in the crowd.
Live music from Goby Catt kept the place hopping as did a steady stream of drinks and canapes. An emotional Danny Filippone was in his element as he spoke to the crowd from the stage about his father and uncles and the memories of days gone by. Never one to let melancholy ruin a good time, the always affable host glad-handed his way around the room welcoming each guest into the family fold. Still, the biggest sparkling star in the crowd this night was easily Danny’s wife Jacqueline who, dressed from head to toe in authentic pink Vegas showgirl style sequins and feathers, rocked the room with all the glitz and glam of a young hollywood starlet. Shake those feathers girl!

Vancouver Luxury Supercar Weekend and Borden Ladner Gervais 100 Year Celebration
It was a legal who’s who last week as the good folks at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, one of Canada’s largest law firms, celebrated their 100 year anniversary.
