  • Reality Jane Book Gives Behind the Scene Look at Reality Television

Mary zilba reality tvIt’s no secret that reality TV has taken prime time television by storm. But whether it’s American Idol, Dancing with the Stars or Survivor, few of us know what really goes on behind the scenes. Enter Shannon Nering. This beautiful and talented West Vancouver woman knows all the gossip having got her start in the industry a few years ago as a docu-reality producer and director. With an amazing list of credits to her name, including the much anticipated Real Housewives of Vancouver (due out in February 2012), she’s decided to tell all . . . sort of. Recently, Shannon held a glamorous party in honour of her new book entitled “Reality Jane”. Based on her sometimes wild television experiences, she nonetheless denies that “Jane” is her alter ego. Instead, Shannon prefers to describe the book as a kind of “chick-lit” novel based on a fun character who was designed solely for the entertainment of her readers. And now, with the title “author” added to her list of credentials, she’s hoping audiences buy-in to this new adventure too.

  • Miss America visits Vancouver and North Vancouver Chamber Business Awards

She’s one of West Vancouver’s most famous residents, and now, thanks to the donations and support of another prominent West Vancouver family, the Sarah McLachlan School of Music has a stunning new home. Last week, a special formal reception marked the official opening of the new school. Providing full scholarship music programs to less privileged students in Grade 4 – 12, this latest step helps bring to fruition a dream that started some nine years ago. “I want to give as many children as I can the chance to know how it feels to find their voice through music,” said McLachlan before she proudly joined the student choir on stage to sing for the audience of invited friends and guests. Also last week, West Vancouver’s Shannon and Emad Yacoub, of Glowbal Group restaurants (Coast, Italian Kitchen, Sanafir), hosted a sexy soiree opening party at their newest establishment – Black and Blue. This chic steak house now gives the restaurateurs a commanding presence along Alberni and turns the former business-y boulevard into one of Vancouver’s hottest see-and-be-seen streets.

  • Odlum Brown Vancouver Open Tennis Tournament at Hollyburn Country Club in West Vancouver

    sophie_lui_globaltv.jpg
The Odlum Brown Vancouver Open tennis tournament was held last week at West Vancouver’s Hollyburn Country Club. Often billed as a showcase of the “stars of tomorrow”, this competition is anything but amateur. And while the talent on display here may be young, they all brought their A-games to the court in a series of impressive outings that any tennis fan would love. Needless to say, tournaments like this are nothing without the dedicated group of people who come into play behind the scenes. Last Tuesday, the VIP reception gave everyone a chance to mix and mingle as matches got underway on the picturesque sun filled court decks. Congrats to all involved.
