They’ve been called Z95, then Crave radio – but as of this month, when you turn your dial to 95.3 FM, you’ll hear the wild and wonderful sounds of Virgin Radio. Working off the brand made famous by Sir Richard Branson, the staff and management celebrated the launch of their newest image in an all-out, blushing red light / red carpet party at Kitsilano’s Watermark restaurant. Fire dancers on the beach, and some full frontal nudity, made this a night to remember.
01 – Corus Entertainment’s Jim (JJ) Johnston, left, radio legend Ron Hennesy and Matthew G. McBride join AM 650 morning host Gerry O’Day. 02 – Ranging in size from 7’ feet to 5’ feet in height, Virgin characters welcomed invited guests to the party. 03 – Proving that they’re out to break all kinds of rules, a Virgin Radio hostess blushes as she poses next to a full-frontal nude dude. 04 – Dressed in mime makeup and red ballet skirts, costumed waiters handed out Virgin themed drinks. 05 – Former North Van restaurant owner Fred Bilawey, who is now the director of operations at the Watermark on Kits Beach, poses with staff members Chaya Katrensky, left, Ella Chan and Tara Bell. 06 – On-air personalities Nat Hunter, left, Gerry O’Day, Sarah Bartok and Drew Savage are fan favourites.
