  • Grammy 2013 Awards – Wardrobe Fashion Rules and Who Broke Them

It’s true. CBS actually sent out an email to Grammy attendees warning them to cover up, and in some cases, shut up.

The letter, which outlines exactly what is and isn’t acceptable at this year’s 2013 awards show, warns against everything from bare bums and boobs to swear words, foreign swear words and political causes.

The reasons behind it all is no doubt due to numerous “wardrobe malfunctions” and slippery nipple effects that seem to have drawn the ire of network executives who are tired of stars trying to grab more than their fair share of the spotlight. See for yourself below:

CBS Email sent to Grammy attendees

    Date: February 5, 2013, 10:39:56 PM EST
Subject: 55th GRAMMYS: Standard And Practice Wardrobe Advisory

-kindly confirm receipt of s&p standards-

    ***GRAMMYS 2013***

CBS Program Practices advises that all talent appearing on camera please adhere to Network policy concerning wardrobe.

Please be sure that buttocks and female breasts are adequately covered. Thong type costumes are problematic. Please avoid exposing bare fleshy under curves of the buttocks and buttock crack. Bare sides or under curvature of the breasts is also problematic. Please avoid sheer see-through clothing that could possibly expose female breast nipples. Please be sure the genital region is adequately covered so that there is no visible “puffy” bare skin exposure. Please avoid commercial identification of actual brand name products on T-shirts. Foreign language on wardrobe will need to be cleared. OBSCENITY OR PARTIALLY SEEN OBSCENITY ON WARDROBE IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR BROADCAST. This as well, pertains to audience members that appear on camera. Finally, The Network requests that any organized cause visibly spelled out on talent’s wardrobe be avoided. This would include lapel pins or any other form of accessory.

Overall, the fashion faux pas seem to have gone away for now. But don’t dismay, there was still enough red carpet cleavage to go around, much to the delight of camera crews everywhere who were quick to snap a shot of the best assets on the red carpet.

  • Real Housewives of Vancouver Season Two Premiere Party

Vancouver’s real housewives are back – for season two! This night, the glam girls gathered at the Loden Hotel in downtown Vancouver to watch the premiere episode of Real Housewives of Vancouver – Season Two with friends, family and invite only guests.

The champagne was flowing and the ladies all sparkled in fabulous bejewelled gowns and designer name accessories. New wives Ioulia Reynolds, Amanda Hansen and Robin Reichman joined returning stars Jody Claman, Mary Zilba and Ronnie Negus for a night of celebrity celebration. It was hugs and kisses all round as guests walked the red carpet.

Fashion wise, it was basic black mixed with sparkles everywhere you looked. Mary, Ronnie and Ioulia rocked the red carpet in anything-but-basic black which made them all look equally gorgeous, elegant and fetching.

West Vancouver’s flamboyant mother-daughter team of Mia and Jody Claman were big time Hollywood glam in floor length bejewelled gowns which sparkled even more than the Moet. And newcomers Robin and Amanda were extra glittery in gold and see-through hues encrusted with enough sequins and beads to make Cher jealous. Personally, I adored every single outfit and think it helped make the premiere extra special in every way.

After the reception, it was time to see the action – and reactions. Everyone turned to the televisions as nervous giggles filled the air. In the end, it was a spectacular evening that sets the stage for an even more exciting season of entertainment and fun.

Check out some of the VIP scenes that you won’t see on tv and get a behind-the-curtain glimpse of the girls as they watch themselves in action on premiere night in Vancouver.

  • Dal Richards Music Man 95th Birthday

Back in 1918, the world danced to a different beat. World War I was just ending, and radio was just beginning. Music however was in full swing and, as far as one young man was concerned, it was about to change his life forever. Dal Richards, known across Canada as the consummate band leader, turned 95 years young on January 5th. The overall celebration however simply could not be confined to just one day as Dal and his wife Muriel have made several appearances at various events across the city. One of the most glamorous events was held last Sunday night as friends and well-wishers from all across the land came out to wish Dal well at the nostalgic “The Roof” venue. Located at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, it was an evening of live music, good food and fabulous memories which ended with Dal himself singing his signature favourite song – “As Time Goes By”. Needless to say, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. Happy Birthday Dal!

  • KidSport Dinner in the Park Gala Vancouver

Last week, I had the honour of returning from Europe aboard the same flight as our Canadian Paralympians fresh from their London 2012 experience. Little did I know that later that same week I would have the chance to dine with them and their Olympic compatriots at the first annual KidSport Dinner in the Park gala fundraiser. Gold, silver and bronze medals were everywhere as guests got a chance to get up close and personal with our country’s athletes as they shared their stories with everyone. With the belief that “no kid should be left on the sidellines”, this KidSport charitable event also included an elegant and delicious four-course meal prepared by the Sequoia Company of Restaurants’ expert chefs. • Richard Branson in Vancouver and Real Housewives at Dining for Dreams Gala

Richard bransonIt was a British invasion of sorts last week as Sir Richard Branson was back in Vancouver for the launch of Virgin Atlantic. Branson became one of the city’s most overexposed as he arrived in style on the jet early morning to greet Premier Christy Clark. Then it was lunch with the Board of Trade followed by a charity photo op with Glee star Cory Monteith. A private VIP evening reception was then followed by the party of all parties at the Commodore featuring young UK singer Conor Maynard. Also last week, it was the BC Centre for Ability’s Dining for Dreams gala. Chaired by CTV news anchor Tamara Taggart, the evening also featured Real Housewives of Vancouver star and West Vancouverite Ronnie Seterdahl Negus and her daughter Remington. Congrats to all involved.

  • Real Housewives of Vancouver Mary Zilba Sings “Hero” for son Chase

You know her as the former beauty queen and singer on The Real Housewives of Vancouver, but Mary Zilba is out to prove that she’s more than just a pretty face as she fights for her son Chase in the battle against epilepsy.

Speaking in Yaletown at The Amethyst Soiree for Epilepsy and Seizure Education, Zilba debuted her newest single “Hero” in front of a packed house. Son Chase accompanied her on the guitar. Invited guests and VIPs came out in support of her cause.

As a busy working mom who has raised three boys (Cole 17, Chase 15 and Chad 13), Zilba was quick to point out that although the song is based on Chase, she thinks on all of her children as her heroes and she empathizes with other parents going through similar struggles.

So what is life like now that “Real Housewives” is on the air? Zilba admits to being a little surprised at the results and just how much the editing can affect the outcome. “I’m human, and I got caught up in the drama,” she says shyly.

And for all those wondering if the “Housewives” are really friends, you’ll have to watch to find out the answer.

  • Actor Rob Lowe at Turning Point Gala in Vancouver

Rob lowe catherine barrActor Rob Lowe has been a Hollywood heartthrob since the early 80s. But even with a successful career, famous friends and lots of money, he’s the first to tell you that ‘living the life’ wasn’t always easy. In town last week for the Turning Point Recovery Society’s 5th annual gala fundraiser, the distractingly handsome lead man was happy to lend his name to the BC organization that provides residential addiction support and recovery throughout the Lower Mainland. Today, after a long battle with alcohol addiction, he’s riding high on the recent success of his newest tv show, Parks and Rec, – and his best-selling book “Stores I Only Tell My Friends” was the basis of his keynote speech at the gala event. And with the worst of his addictions hopefully behind him, he seems more than ready to become a role model both on and off the screen. Also last week, the tourism folks from Calgary were in town for a special reception celebrating the launch of the Calgary Stampede Centennial 100 Years celebration. White hats and hospitality were on the menu as folks from all over were encouraged to kick up their heels and come on out for “The Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth” July 6-15, 2012. Yeehaw!

  • Reality Jane Book Gives Behind the Scene Look at Reality Television

Mary zilba reality tvIt’s no secret that reality TV has taken prime time television by storm. But whether it’s American Idol, Dancing with the Stars or Survivor, few of us know what really goes on behind the scenes. Enter Shannon Nering. This beautiful and talented West Vancouver woman knows all the gossip having got her start in the industry a few years ago as a docu-reality producer and director. With an amazing list of credits to her name, including the much anticipated Real Housewives of Vancouver (due out in February 2012), she’s decided to tell all . . . sort of. Recently, Shannon held a glamorous party in honour of her new book entitled “Reality Jane”. Based on her sometimes wild television experiences, she nonetheless denies that “Jane” is her alter ego. Instead, Shannon prefers to describe the book as a kind of “chick-lit” novel based on a fun character who was designed solely for the entertainment of her readers. And now, with the title “author” added to her list of credentials, she’s hoping audiences buy-in to this new adventure too.

  • Grey Cup 99 Weekend Gala and Parties in Vancouver

christy_clark_dennis_skulsky.jpgIt was time to show your spirit and your team colours this past weekend as the 99th Grey Cup came to town. Orange and black were the popular choice as hometown fans cheered their own BC Lions all the way to victory in the finals against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. But the big game was just a part of the weekend-long Grey Cup celebration that took place primarily at the Vancouver Convention Centre. With each CFL Team setting up their own “house” and live bands and street parties taking place nearby, the city was alive with electricity everywhere you looked. One of the biggest galas of the event was the Scotiabank Show Your Colours gala where, despite the $350 ticket price, everyone dressed in their team jerseys in anticipation of Sunday’s big game. VIP guests included Premier Christy Clark, Prime Minister Stephen Harper and other dignitaries who were all treated to a five-star meal, marching bands, cheerleaders, live music and comedy impersonators.

06 – Band leader Dal Richards, left, and famous comedian Ron James are two legendary entertainers who don’t agree on everything. Dal is cheering for the BC Lions while Ron claims to be a Winnipeg fan.

07 – A bruiser on the ice, but a pussycat in real life, former Vancouver Canucks enforcer Gino Odjick knows which side to cheer for.

08 – The Honourable Peter MacKay, Canadian Minister of National Defence, left, and David Poole, Scotiabank senior vice-president BC & Yukon region, are among the VIPs enjoying a night of spectacular food, fun and entertainment.
