  • BC Sports Hall of Fame New Home and Olympic Memories

    Nancy greene skierThe BC Sports Hall of Fame has always been an impressive place of history in Vancouver, but now, thanks to a revamped BC Place, the Hall of Fame has a new home and even bigger legacy to share. Last week, during a special VIP reception, invited guests, athletes and friends were part of an extra special dedication night full of famous memories. The who’s who of past inductees were in attendance as everyone shared stories from a proud past.

    01 – West Vancouver artist Michael Tickner and wife Alice, left, shares some Olympic stories with ice dance champion Victor Kraatz who, along with skating partner Shae-Lynn Bourne, were the first World Champions in ice dancing representing Canada.

    02 – West Vancouver Olympian Charmaine Crooks, left, poses with the Honourable Ida Chong, Minister of Community, Sports and Cultural Development, and athlete Andrea Neal who will be inducted for the sport of soccer at this year’s Banquet of Champions.

    03 – Global BC TV’s Ian Haysom, left, celebrates the occasions with VIP guests Audrey Williams, Beth Haysom and Brett Manlove.

    04 – Whistler Mayor Nancy Wilheim, left, chats with former Olympian and ski champion Nancy Greene, who also acted as this evening’s MC.

    05 – Celebrating the two-year anniversary of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic games, John Furlong still has good reason to smile. His book, “Patriot Hearts”, remains a best seller.

    06 – North Shore residents Stephen Simpson and Susan Dujmovic remember the good times as they stand near the Olympic medallion display which Susan helped unveil during the games as part of the Royal Canadian Mint.

    07 – North Vancouver skating sweethearts Barry and Louise Soper were inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1979. Together they won all three levels of national competition (from 1971 to 1974) and represented Canada as Canadian Ice Dance Champions at four World Figure Skating Championships.

    08 – With too many names to mention, this historic photograph of present and past Hall of Famers marks the start of a new era of excellence.

  • Porsche Club of America Escape 2010 at Sun Peaks

    porsche_canada.jpgCar lovers from all over the province came out to play this weekend at The Porsche Club of America’s Escape 2010 event. Held at the beautiful Delta Sun Peaks Resort, there was no shortage of North Shore faces at the Porsche show and shine and gala weekend which included demos, seminars and an excellent chance to pal around with fellow Porsche car enthusiasts. Over 200 vehicles were on display and some drove from as far away as North Carolina. Money raised from the event and live auction awards evening goes to support the British Columbia Childhood Cancer Parents’ Association (BCCCPA) because as the club’s motto states . . . “It’s not just the cars, it’s the people.”

    01 – Senator Nancy Greene Raine, a 1968 Olympic gold medallist, and husband Al Raine, Mayor of Sun Peaks, are among the VIPs at the Saturday night gala awards dinner.

    02 – Escape 2010 event chair Danny Ilias, seen here with wife Anne, deserves a big round of applause for putting together a first class weekend that did a lot to promote BC and it’s people.

    03 – Porsche Cars Canada’s new CEO Joe Lawrence, seen here with wife Patti, has high praise for club owners during his keynote speech at the Saturday night gala event.

    04 – Hey baby, want a ride? Not even a year old yet, little John Ilias looks very comfortable behind the wheel of the limited edition 2010 Boxster RS Spyder. No wonder all the girls were swooning.

    05 – Kent Patterson, left, and West Vancouver’s Don Jewell not only took part in the show and shine, but are happy to be sponsoring the weekend on behalf of Glassart Print Company.

    06 – Former North Shore Outlook editor Andrew McCredie and son Callum make note of their favourites as they stroll through the village during the show and shine.

    07 – BCCCPA board members Al and Simone Carpenter help raise money for their charity with a special 50/50 draw and Canucks’ hockey ticket raffle.

    08 – Delta Sun Peaks’ new chef Steve Buzak barely had time to unpack before he and his staff pulled off a perfect three-night banquet event for all the hungry Porsche car members.

    09 – Taking home a prize or two for his pristine Porsche is member and organizer Steve Warner who also hails from North Vancouver.

  • Olympic Parties Week 2

    The Olympic parties continue with even more famous faces coming out to play.

    01 – Mogul skier Jenn Heil, seen here at a Birks reception party, gets Canada on the map first with a silver medal up at West Vancouver’s Cypress Mountain.

    02 – Supermodel Cindy Crawford, seen here with Stephen Urquhart, President of OMEGA, left, and BC Premier Gordon Campbell, plays to the crowd at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver reception.

    03 – First gold medal on Canadian soil nets mogul skier Alex Bilodeau a big gold covered maple leaf trophy from medal metals resource company Teck. The private reception included VIP gold medal guest athletes Simon Whitfield and Nancy Greene.

    04 – One of Adam Moffat’s main jobs is to make sure all medal winners get their Molson Canadian “champagne” magnum full of the super suds. Fun!

    05 – North Vancouver MP Andrew Saxton is among the lucky guests who get to hold a gold medal at the VIP Teck medal reception. Teck supplies all the gold, silver and bronze for the Olympic medals.

    06 – The North Shore’s own Pino Posteraro, chef of Yaletown’s Cioppino’s, cooks up a storm for a very exclusive private dinner with Virgin Group billionaire Sir Richard Branson.

    07 – West Vancouver and Washington Marine Group’s own Kyle Washington and wife Janelle dine with both Sir Richard Branson and HSH Prince Albert of Monaco at a private dinner at Cioppino’s.

    08 – Mike Twining, left, and Chris Hall are hitting gold with the opening of their new Sin Bin location right next to the athletes village where they get to serve Olympic athletes, coaches and actresses like Sandra Oh.

  • Olympic Event at Park Royal and more

    Can you feel it? It’s in the air and it’s spreading. And with less than 30 days to go, it seems like everybody has suddenly come down with a big case of Olympic fever. Everyone’s getting into the act – from real estate to restaurants to politicians. We’re sprucing up and getting ready to welcome the world.
