  • Tim Jones Legacy Fund North Shore Rescue Fundraiser

    Tim Jones was a true modern day hero. As leader and spokesperson for North Shore Rescue, he and his colleagues saved the lives of many people. Over the course of his 26 years as a volunteer, he was search leader to over a thousand missions. His sudden death on January 19th was a shock to many. In his memory, the Tim Jones Legacy Fund has been established to raise money for the non-profit North Shore Rescue organization. Earlier this month, a celebratory fundraiser was held at Seymour’s Pub in North Vancouver. Invited guests, politicians, friends and family were on hand to socialize, bid on auction items and show their support. Congrats to all involved.

  • Variety Celebrity Car Rally for Kids

    Variety – the Children’s Charity is well known for their ability to raise support for kids everywhere. But last week, on the heels of a very successful “Show of Hearts” telethon, the organization held a special VIP party of a different kind. Now it’s time to suit up and start your engines for the 2014 Variety Rally for Kids with Special Needs. Sponsored by West Vancouver’s Washington family and their new EBoost energy product, this night is just the first in a series of spectacular events leading up to the two-day rally later this year. Luxury cars and Hollywood stars are just the beginning as each registered team must raise a minimum of $25,000 to enter. Then, come May, it’s time to pick your celeb and hit the road. Celebrities participating in the past have included Eva Longoria, Gene Simmons, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. So keep that pedal to the metal as many of our local famous faces take to the streets in support of this amazing cause.

  • Vancouver Webster Awards 2013

    It’s the measure of journalistic excellence in British Columbia and more. The Webster Awards – named after B.C.’s most famous and feisty newsman – was held last week at the Westin Bayshore hotel in Vancouver. The room was a who’s who of the news media industry and included scores of well-known writers and broadcasters working in print, radio and television in British Columbia. Being nominated for a “Webster” is an honour – but winning one gives you membership in a very exclusive and revered club . Among the nominees and winners were many recognizable North Shore faces. Also, a big nod to Glacier Media executives who were among the VIPs and who are now also the new owners/publishers of our own Outlook newspaper. Congrats to everyone involved!

  • All That Glitters Gala with 54-40, Canoe Diamond and Penthouse History

    Sometimes it’s hard to decide if we’re still in the gala season (end of November) or the start of holiday season (beginning of December). Either way, it really doesn’t matter because with Christmas just around the corner, there’s still so many events to talk about. And whether you’re raising money for your cause or remembering to donate for the season, please remember to give generously. Let’s take a look back at a few great faces from last week.

    02 – Penthouse Nightclub owner Danny Filippone, left, and author/musician Aaron Chapman, both from North Vancouver, are all aglow at the star-studded book launch of “Liquor, Lust and The Law” (Arsenal Pulp Press).
