  • Juvenile Diabetes JDRF Luncheon in West Vancouver

Juvenile Diabetes Luncheon – Nothing hurts more than seeing kids suffer. But nothing feels as good as watching them succeed. Such was the case last month as a group of young West Vancouver friends, all of whom suffer from juvenile diabetes, got together to raise funds for their fight for a cure. Held at West Vancouver’s Trattoria restaurant, the luncheon event included great food, fun prizes and inspirational speeches. Don’t forget to give at www.jdrf.ca

  • Variety BC Golden Heart Gala Honouring Peter Armstrong

Variety BC – The Children’s Charity is one of the most prestigious charities in the province. Their tireless work behind the scenes with special needs kids is exceptional and heart-warming. Only makes sense then that one of their most prestigious awards is called the Golden Heart Award in honour of individuals who make a difference in our community. This year’s gala honouree is Peter R.B. Armstrong, of Rocky Mountaineer fame, who has literally donated millions of dollars to over 200 different charities throughout the years. The special gala dinner was held at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver which was fitting in more than one way as rumour has it Peter used to work there as a doorman years ago. Some even say that’s where he got the idea to start his first ever tour company. Congrats to Peter and everyone involved

There’s never a shortage of things to do all across the North Shore and charity events are always on the list. The summer months are bursting with community fun and festivals but you’ll want to book off lots of time during May, June, October and November as these are always when the big glamorous galas are held. Check out some of these dates below and be sure to check back with me throughout the year to keep you posted. Best wishes to all.

01 – Kay Meek Centre board member Paul Tutsch, left, West Vancouver councillor Mary Ann Booth and volunteer Barney Ellis were among the many guests at last year’s annual Kay Meek Gala event. Whistler’s annual Cornucopia may be considered one of the wildest weekends on the mountain with so many dinners, dances, tastings and parties to attend that come November 2013, they are planning on holding it for a whole week. Hold onto your hats for details.
