Movie Lot

RANDY Tan lives in North Vancouver, but sometimes it looks a lot like New York or Chicago. Crowds of people often invade his bedroom, despite it being locked behind a vault door, and parties are the norm in his kitchen/restaurant. That's because Randy Tan runs Aja Tan Studios, one of North Vancouver's best kept secret locations. Twenty years ago, his waterfront Squamish reserve land was nothing but a gravel pit, but today, it has helped create footage in some of the biggest name productions around including Outer Limits, Get Carter and more. On July 6, it was time to celebrate as Randy invited some of the city's most influencial location scouts to see his latest additions. And the entrepreneur didn't fail to entertain as he served up food, refreshments and live music well into the night.

They're saucy fellows indeed. Howie Riback (left) Tony Roy, Ernesto Mangulins and Jim Miller donned their chefs hats to cook up some fabulous chicken and ribs featuring Ernesto's BBQ & Grilling Sauce. The hot and spicy one was my fave.

Helping out with clearing plates and glasses were volunteers Dylan Cross (left) Ashly Northcott and Matthew McPhillips.

He's the man that helps make it all happen. Randy Tan, of Aja Tan Studios has been building for the past 7 years and is no stranger to movie making. "I often wake up to automatic gunfire," he joked.
