SINFONIA is the North Shore's own symphony orchestra and they are a delight to behold. On Oct. 26, at North Van's Centennial Theatre, the symphony kicked-off its second season with "A Salute to Austria". It was a great way to honour Austria's national day and there was no shortage of famous faces in the crowd. Conductor Clyde Mitchell was in fine form as he lead both the symphony and the orchestra in a rousing encore of Strauss' "Radetzky March". Composer Michael Conway-Baker also premiered his Canadian waltz, entitled "MapleWeiss", which was aptly named by North Shore resident Ken Brookfield. A champagne reception after the show allowed everyone to mix and mingle. |
