Gleneagles Ball

FOR 37 years now, the members of the Gleneagles Scottish Country Dance Club have been spinning reels and dancing jigs. They are now the largest club in British Columbia and they are based here on the North Shore. Every year, other club members travel to Vancouver to take part in their annual ball. On Dec. 10th, at the Hotel Vancouver, the Pacific Ballroom was transformed as the Vancouver Fiddle Orchestra took to the stage and the dancers took to the floor in their finest gowns, dinner jackets and kilts. It was really quite a beautiful event to behold. There was a lunch to start off the event and then the Grand March took place at 4 p.m. After that, dancing was the order of the evening. If you want more info about the club and its activities call 925-0581.

They are truly an inspiration. Rev. Jim Smith and his lovely lady Elizabeth Breuer were dancing up a storm.

The gals decided to do away with the traditional white dress and tartan sash and go for the glam. Looking good was (from left) Imelda Beesley, Helen Huges, Mary Kempton and Pat Johnson.

The ball was a great place for beginners, like Marion and Ross Dutcher, to see all kinds of different dances performed.

Sometimes you just have to sit out a dance or two and take a break like Catherine Zuest (left) and Sally Toft.

Guest artist Calum MacKinnon came up from Washington state to perform live with the Vancouver Fiddle Orchestra.

They may not have met on "The Lea-Rig", but I'm sure teacher coordinator May Louden and her hubby Ian could dance it with ease.
