Babych and Friends Anglers Challenge
Catherine Barr

FORMER Vancouver Canuck Dave Babych and his brother Wayne are fan favourites both on and off the ice. In fact, outside of hockey, the guys are legendary for their fishing escapades and fish stories. So, what better way to raise money for a good cause than through their 3rd annual Babych and Friends Anglers Challenge and Charity Auction. Friends and family from all over the North Shore came to Dock Marlins Pub and River Cafe to bid on some great gifts and prizes. Money raised goes to support the C.H.I.L.D. Foundation.

TD Bank Manager Michael Watson and wife Gill made the trip from the North Shore to support this good cause.

Rob Giroux, of Ritchie Brothers Auctioneers, led the bidding.
Big giggles from the gals, namely Betty Wurst (left) and Debbi Risi.

Former Socred MLA Grace McCarthy (centre), seen here with husband Ray and friend Denice Klein, is chairman of the C.H.I.L.D. Foundation.
Susan Marraffa was a busy gal organizing things downstairs.

North Van's own Sandy St. Aubin (left) and Alix Findlay brought were looking bright and sunny.
North Van's Deryl Griffith (left), seen here with Dianne Griffith and Ro Lal, placed the successful winning bid on a beautiful cigar humidor.
Tanya Zambrano will be sticking close to Terry Trotic since his winning bid won him a day's rental on a Harley motorcycle.
Fourteen-year-old goalie Preston Peniuk was thrilled with his purchase of an autographic Paul Coffey picture and plate.
They've been friends of the Babych's for a while now. From left: Flavio Unti, wife Cristina and Raymond Marzin.

I couldn't think of a nicer guy to keep running into. Former Canuck Martin Gelinas now plays for North Carolina, but I've seen him all over the North Shore this summer.
It's the Babych boys themselves. Both Dave (left) and Wayne have given a lot to charity throughout the years.
Believe it or not, but Audrey Bakewell has taught many NHLers, like Dana Murzyn, how to skate.
Event organizer Deanna Marzin (left) was glad to have friends Suzanne Finley (centre) and Michelle Langford come out for support.
